It happens to me too, I get it.
I feel like it’s a common misconception that because my job is in fitness, that means that I always want to work out and I am always super motivated or have a goal that I’m working towards.
Let me tell you what, that is absolutely not the way my life is lol.
Yes, I am privileged enough that fitness is my job, and that means that I do have more opportunities to work out. But also, I experience chronic pain, and there are times when I really don’t want to work out.
So what do I do?
Most of the time, I put my big girl pants on and do it anyway. Because sometimes, we’ve got to do things that we don’t want to do. And afterwards I’ll feel better (mostly) or at least I’m glad that I moved a little.
But other days, I just literally say no and I go and take a nap on my couch instead. (These are rare and far between but they have been known to happen)
If I’m having a bad body day, I will modify my workout. If I have three sets of something then maybe I’ll only do that. And if two sets is still too much, maybe I’ll only do one set. Or maybe instead of the six exercises that I’m supposed to do, I’ll only do four exercises. Or instead of the 12 reps that I’m supposed to do, I will only do eight reps.
There are so many different ways that we can modify a workout, but also some days it’s just not it, and that’s okay.
This is your reminder that not every day has to be a perfect workout day. Sometimes you’ve just got to get through it. While some movement is typically better than no movement at all, sometimes less movement is all right too.
It’s okay to have some lower days and some higher days, that’s part of life. Keep on going on the days that feel good and scale back on the days that need it.
